This project is located in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, and involves the construction of 828 one and two bedroom apartments. The blocks are surrounded by security fencing and access is only available to residents. The apartments will be located around central courtyards with children’s playgrounds, helping to nurture a community.
The site location serves a growing industrial area that is home to international manufacturing employers such as Tata Motors, Suzuki and Ford, as well as being well connected to amenities such as schools, public transport and healthcare facilities.
Whilst the project targets people living on low incomes, affordability is even further improved by the opportunity for residents to apply for the government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, which subsidises the interest charges of housing mortgages. Classed as ‘Affordable Housing Loans’ these will be provided by banks including the Central Bank of India and the Housing Development Finance Cooperation (HDFC). With this subsidy, all of the housing units are affordable to the bottom 40th percentile of the Ahmedabad population.
