This project is located in Lekhnath municipality, in northern-central Nepal. Serving low-income residents that were unable to access housing finance, Lumanti provided a 50% guarantee to Kamana Sewa Bikash Bank for loans to project clients. In this way, Lumanti have been able to leverage private finance and encourage banks to lend to income groups that they previously considered too risky.
Detached, single-storey buildings that can be incrementally extended in the future are currently under construction in existing settlements, with a focus on low cost materials and technology. Residents are also able to use the loans to upgrade their existing homes. This project was designed to consolidate its previous success, encouraging continued long-term entry of formal finance institutions into informal settlement upgradation.
