Located in Tansen Munciplaity, in the hill area of western Nepal, this project targeted members of the Nawayug Cooperative. This project was fully financed by funds revolved from previous Lumanti projects, which is a great example of how housing finance can be used cyclically to have greater impact. The Cooperative was lent funds by Lumanti, which financed the allocation of individual housing loans to member households. Lumanti also supplied training in technical, financial and management skills, and a team of community architects was provided to help the clients design their housing according to their needs. Upon repaying their loan to the cooperative, the funds were then revolved again by Lumanti and reallocated to support new housing projects throughout Nepal.
Prior to the project the clients lived in housing which caused multiple threats to their health and security and often lacked access to basic services such as water. Each household was able to use their loan to construct a safe, permanent house fully serviced with electricity, household water and sanitation.
