This project is located in Tamale, the fastest growing city in northern Ghana, and is being developed by Afreh Group. 12 hectares of land was purchased, 10 km from the city centre on a main trunk road, and with schools and amenities within walking distance. Most of the clients already live in the site vicinity, allowing for easy access to their current jobs and businesses. Tamale is ideally situated with existing electricity and water lines, allowing each house to be fully serviced with a household water, sanitation and energy. The houses are being constructed with a design that allows for further extension at the homeowner’s choice.
The project serves participants of the Tamale Community Cooperative Credit Union, which has over 1,000 members. Affordability assessments and loan applications will be conducted by the cooperative, allowing households to purchase their own home on the project site. The majority of clients currently rent accommodation at a slightly higher cost than the planned monthly loan repayment, indicating the affordability of the houses that are now being constructed.
