Malawi

Reall has worked in Malawi since 1992, mainly in partnership with CCODE, a community development NGO, and its housing development company Enterprise Development Holdings (EDH).

Malawi ranks among the world’s poorest nations, with significant challenges in securing land tenure and access to affordable, decent housing, especially for low-income urban populations. Working with partners, Reall historically focused on government engagement, land access and tenure security for low-income communities, strengthening institutional engagement to lay the groundwork for scalable solutions.

Working with EDH, Reall financed the construction of 250 rental units between 2012 and 2015, located in Lilongwe and Blantyre. This initiative aimed to deliver secure, affordable rental housing to vulnerable urban communities, it also provided improved access to water and sanitation for an estimated 500 residents.

These partnerships delivered secure, affordable rental homes, and lay the groundwork for future scalable housing programmes in Malawi.
