Green City Homes

Introduction

Green City Homes works with local, socially motivated developers to tackle the growing urban housing crisis in Africa and Asia. The project will address gender inclusion and build communities that are accessible and diverse, and which enhance the socio-economic prospects of the homeowners. It has six priority markets: Ghana, India, Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria and the Philippines.

Green City Homes – how it works

Impact

A initial investment in Green City Homes of USD$60 million over three years will build 3,181 green affordable homes, housing around 15,905 people, of which 7,952 are expected to be women and girls. 60% of the new homes will cost less than USD$28,000.

All homes will meet the internationally agreed environmental EDGE construction standards, reducing around 2,545 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and saving roughly 140 million litres of water per year.

Green City Homes will create approximately 15,000 jobs in the construction industry.

Missing Middle

Green City Homes will increase access to affordable housing for the ‘missing middle’. Typically, they are key workersteachers, nurses, firefighters, police, house helpers those who shape a community but are priced out of the housing market.
